Title: Today a Death Word Count: 3,266 Summary: Missing moment: Hermione's feelings as she waits outside the hospital wing when Ron is poisoned. Warnings: Not slept on, not betaed.
Your stories have such an incredible depth. This is brilliant. I love that you build it up, build it up and build it up, and then there's not really an ending (obviously, since it's still half way through HBP) rather a changing in all their realtionships towards each other. It's actually made me think that Hermione, whilst petrified, hasn't really come close to dying yet, like Harry (GoF) and Ron have. It's quite terrifying, actually.
She remembered that today was his birthday, and that if he died, he would die believing that she hated him.
That line really packs a punch. Specifically because I don't think that Ron really thinks she hates him in HBP, he's just too proud to admit he's a poopy head and hides behind Hermione's animosity.
:sniffle: I'll never be able to read that er-my-nee line without thinking of this mm, I think. :sigh: This was powerfully done, Antonia.
I think I especially like the section where Ginny joins Harry and Hermione in the corridor - not just because I'm a Ginny!fan, but because of that moment where Hermione leans against the wall, alone. Eep. So poignant. Anyone who's ever felt that would have a throat lump.
That was unbelievably powerful, and unbelievably true to real life. Especially how Hermione was inappropriately angry with Ron in her fear and grief, because that really happens in life, that all your unresolved, bitter feelings that are never expressed bubble to the surface to mingle with all the love you have for the person too, so you feel confused and guilty to add to everything else. I also liked how you portrayed how lonely and jealous Hermione felt seeing Harry and Ginny support each other, because her support would be Ron. And, of course, once Ron was ok, you showed Hermione pull herself together and start thinking again! Great fic.
Thank you very much for the lovely review. Yours are always so meaningful! I hope you haven't had too many occassions to feel like Hermione did (somehow that sounded like experience talking *hugs*).
I have haven't had many such experiences, but once is enough. And that is why your writing often amazes me, because you really do seem to always know how a character would be feeling if they were real, good and bad (though you have a slightly positive bias, which I like).

Anyway, that was a ramble! Lovely, lovely story.
