The moon shone brightly in the night sky, bathing the bedroom in a soft glow. Rubbing her round, pregnant belly as she rested, Lily watched the rhythmic rise and fall of James’ chest.
They'd decided to start a family that peaceful Christmas morning when miniature baubles decorated their evergreen tree. She’d been wrapping gifts on the floor, when he’d curled up beside her, lips teasing the pulse point on her neck.
Raising a child in the midst of a war would not be easy, Lily thought as she watched the sleeping form of her husband.
But they’d manage it together.
