Beyond Thunderdome

Thunderdome, I don't know how I feel about you anymore. I know it's been years since I've been to the desert and last year while the fundraiser raged, I was sipping limoncello in Rome, but I always come back to you, Thunderdome, and expect to party like it's 1999 (or 2000, or even 2001). But you're changed, Thunderdome - who the hell are these ( Read more... )

I went to aerials on Sunday and I immediately thought of about a dozen other tricks I could have done on Saturday night. Next time will be better. More tricks. More monkeying. More magical not-dying.

More people should have told you that you looked fantastic on Saturday. You really did. I would have been happy to get out the Dome weapons and beat people until they complimented you.

But but but! First performance, total success! (i.e. not falling down and dying) Next time, more better, yes!

And OMG lady, coming from your fabulousness, THAT is high praise. THANK YOU!!!!!

Some of us from the old guard were standing near dsrt_faery's jewelry table and saying how nice it is that there is a new guard... because though we still love it, our enthusiasm has waned...
It is weird to watch.
And, thank you, thank you, thank you. :):):)

I like the new guard. They're kind and friendly and inclusive. No one ever looked at me and said: who the hell are you? At the same time, the changing of the guard reminded me that there's more to Burning Man than Thunderdome. I'd like to see the rest of it this time.

That's why I used to get there so early. And have worked in temple camp.
And, and, and.

I understand your feelings. At some point, it feels like going back to your old school. Things are still pretty similar, but they aren't the same.

Hear, hear.

When you are surrounded by things on fire and people hanging from meathooks and are still not having a good time, it is time to stop.

Oddly, it occurred to me that if I went to Burning Man again maybe I would be less jaded.

I have the opportunity to go to Burning Man this year for the first time in ages. Going to the Maker Fair on Saturday and seeing the Neverwas and the plans for the steampunk treehouse, the motorized cupcakes and bicycle carousel, made me feel enthusiastic about the desert in a way I haven't been in a long time. I want to go to Burning Man and not spend the entire time sitting in camp. I think that I would like to be a spectator again.

I just had a great idea for a camp:
Spectator Camp. It would consist of a set of bleachers placed on the esplanade facing the inner ring road.
