Surprise Test of the Disaster Recovery Plan

Let me begin by taking all of the blame. A few months ago, I misplaced my combination lock and I did not bother to replace it. So when I went to the gym, I simply put all of my things inside a locker and hoped for the best. This is usually not a problem. I go to nice gyms. Most people are not interested in stealing my work clothes, not even my ( Read more... )

I am a little bit of a lock geek, because lockpicking in the hacker gateway drug, so I've always known these locks were decorative. Changing my lock was just never a high enough priority. I have learned important security lessons.

Ugh, what a hassle. I hope this gets fixed with a quickness.
This line made me laugh tho: "There are some advantages to being the last people on Earth to insist on a manual transmission." Because I'm fairly certain that's why none of our cars have ever been stolen, like so many of our neighbors' have.

Heh, yeah, that's me too. (Last stick shift driver in Washington?) I've had my car's windows broken in, but the car itself has always still been there.

Really sympathetic about the thievery; best of luck thumping electronic heads about it.

Stickshift in Seattle is hardcore. I drive in a very hilly city, but at lest it doesn't snow. Mad props.

Gah, people are foul things indeed, miss never. May your thief catch measles and her progeny be cursed unto seven generations.

I expect to hear from the police on Monday. I have given a lot of thought to how a bad day can be arranged.

I'm morbidly curious: At any point, did you catch yourself thinking "CCTV would have solved this problem by now!"

In any case, I'm so sorry you had to deal with all this. My Sunday and Monday got eaten by trying to price/replace all the shit stolen from my car, but that's minor compared to dealing with data loss and ID theft. :(

I don't even need CCTV to catch this woman. She attempted to make an online purchase from her cell phone. Even if we did not have her on camera at the gym, the Target, at the parking garage (with her car), and at the gas station (with her car), I am two subpoenas away from her home address.

If you're going to steal from professional privacy/security people, you need to be much, much better than this.

Couldn't have happened to a more prepared person, that's for sure. <3

I sometimes wonder what would happen if my laptop went on walkabout. At least my Time Capsule backs it up daily.

Dammit, where's the 'Like' button when you need it!

I hope you recover quickly (although it sounds like you're halfway there) and that someone in SFPD has some gumption next week
