It is Sunday and I am not in Tunis. I canceled my ticket at the last minute and wrote lengthy apologies to my colleagues. I will spend much of the week Skyping with Syrian activists in Tunis while being filmed by documentary filmmakers, but I will not be there myself ( Read more... )

Internet hugs are sufficient. I am trying to take advantage of this unexpected week in ess eff and catch up on work, errands, and exercise. I am already sore.

I'm so sorry to hear all of this. Of course, I think you made the right decision...eventually. I'd have been cancelling that trip immediately, but I'm a coward and, honestly, who wants to go to Tunis? Not me, I'll tell ya.

Haven't you always been a bit slow to heal? I'm just going by what I'm remembering from what you've written throughout the years, but that's the impression I have. So this may just be an example of that, and your pupil will be fine. Take it easy. Life is very long, miss never. There's no hurry.

I don't understand why everyone is so afraid of Tunis. I was looking forward to seeing it. My boss wants us to throw a conference in Tunis in the Spring, so I suppose I will see it then. Life is (hopefully) very long and I have many opportunities to travel, but right now I am suffering from crippling Fear of Missing Out ( ... )

and if it is, it will not heal. Oh well. There goes my modeling career.

It makes you a more stereotypical cyberpunk heroine, though.

Having another shot to go see it in the spring is awesome; if you're like me, you'll get over Fear of Missing Out as soon as you get to go somewhere. Hopefully your bubble absconds with itself properly now and that can be soon.

Lots of sympathy.

If my air bubble is gone two weeks from now, I will go to Rio. I have fought a mighty battle against the Brazilian consulate to get a visa at a time when some combination of technical difficulties and inclement politics meant that the Brazilian consulate was not issuing tourist visas to Americans on the West Coast. I would like to make use of it. I am disappointed to miss Tunis, but I am mostly afflicted with first world problems.
