We Only Love You

Do you remember that one time I came back from a Stripmall Architecture show and I said that it was good, but what I really wanted was for Halou to get on stage and play all of Wiser from start to finish? On Saturday at the Cafe du Nord, this is exactly what they did. If you were not there, I assume that you were somehow immobilized ( Read more... )

Alas, I have been trying to cycle through some of their music to see what of it might be compatible with working mode for me, and it hasn't hooked me. I seem to have 5-starred some songs on Sans Soucie and a couple of things on We Only Love You but mostly mostly there are 3s, and a couple of "please don't play this track on purpose" 2s and 1s but not so many of those fortunately. I can't remember what any of them sound like offhand.

I seem to have only listened to one track on "Wiser" which I'll try to fix.

Question: in what order should they be, though? The order they are in my iTunes is not the order they are here which may or may not be the order on the album since that is actually the mp3 listing... but neither begin with the opening track you mention?

I apparently don't have any Stripmall Architecture. You are probably sighing very heavily at me right now in exasperation.

They didn't play the tracks in order. I am just particularly fond of the song with which they chose to open. Feeling This is Like to Fall Awake and I'll Carry You are the two best tracks on Wiser, in my opinion.

You can listen to the first part of Feathersongs for Factory Girls here. I recommend Radium Girls, which also has a cute video.

Boo, I listened to "Wiser" twice through yesterday while working and probably would have enjoyed that show. Alas. I have a dumb habit of listening to things in alphabetical order in iTunes when I have a bunch of stuff from an artist I don't know well.

Sadly I got very sick of the sample on "I'll Carry You" after sitting through about 15+ minutes of demos/remixes of it on... some album that came earlier in the list.

Very few songs stand up to that sort of listening. I rarely listen to an entire album from start to finish, much less all of my albums by a single artist in one sitting. I would probably just get stuck on Tom Waits for several days.

I really like the R/R Coseboom album "Beneath Trembling Lanterns", and I have the latest Halou album but it hasn't made as much of an impression on me. Sounds like I should dig further back and listen to "Wiser"? I think eMusic has all their old albums, maybe Rdio does too.

Do you mean the last Halou album? They broke up, so they're not making any more. As I said above, Feeling This is Like to Fall Awake and I'll Carry You are my two favorite tracks, but I think that if you have listened to Sans Soucie or Wholeness and Separation and you were unimpressed, Wiser is unlikely to convert you.

The only Halou album I have is titled just "Halou", and it's from 2009. I haven't heard any of the other albums you mention.

Oh, then there's hope! I recommend all three albums that I mentioned in the above post.
