A Week in Iceland

Jul 04, 2016 13:10

Jason had a meeting in Finland the last week of school, so we decided that Alice and I would meet him in Reykjavik on his way home and spend a week showing her some of the country we fell in love with back in 2005.*

Thanks for writing all of this up -- sounds amazing! I've never been that interested in visiting Iceland before, but now it's definitely going on my list.

Just be sure to go sometime when you won't be too sad at missing the hot weather here. The temps were in the mid-50s this week and the average high in August is 68F--heaven for me, but I know other people who've been very sad at how cold it is.

Great write-up! I am looking forward to taking the kids some time, but want to wait until they're old enough to remember. Glad Alice (and the rest of you!) had such a good time. I agree that the similarities to Hawaii are striking--people always look at me funny when I say that, but it's true, even with the differences. Only two places I've ever been snorkeling. ;) Welcome home.

Thanks! I suppose all volcanic islands in the middle of the ocean look alike, to some degree?

Somewhat amusingly, da_lj and I will be there next month, with me arriving a few hours before him, me from Finland, him from Canada.

Thanks for the writeup! I'm excited about the trip.

I feel as though everyone is going to Iceland this year, which is marvelous. I hope you love it!

After re-reading your travelogue just now, I've got a question! How awkward was it to pick up and drop off the wifi device? I was looking into trawler.com and it could either be a laughably easy or annoying process, after arriving/getting rental car / finding the right store to pick it up- without wifi :)

We hadn't planned on it in advance, but the rental place offered it to us and I decided to go for it. So it was pretty simple. The agent asked for my phone to connect it, then handed me the device and connecting cables in a plastic box. When we dropped off the car, we turned it in at the desk.
