The proposed amendment to the Mississippi constitution that would have extended "personhood" to the moment of fertilization has been defeated by the voters.

I think "It would be interesting to let bad things happen to people so an eventual point will be more strongly proved" is easy to say when you're in no danger of being one of the people that the bad things happen to...

I think the people who were against the measure really pulled off a last-minute victory here. They knew it was vaguely written and could lead to all sorts of possibly-unintended consequences.

Needless to say, my coworkers were horrified...

These ideas will surface somewhere else. Although if they got trounced by a 60-40% majority in MISSISSIPPI, I can't see them winning anywhere other than by stealth.

But as we know, the people don't really know what they want. Can't trust them with things like VOTES....
