Changing Tastes

Last night, at Chez Henri, the song He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother was playing. It made me think about how my understanding and appreciation of certain songs has shifted over time.

I didn't properly appreciate "Love's Recovery" until I heard the version on their 1200 Curfews live album, which has an utterly heartbreaking saxophone part.

It's kind of like when I finally paid attention to the lyrics of They Might Be Giants songs, especially "They'll Need a Crane". (Initially, it was a cheery number to dance to. Then I realized that it was a song about divorce.)
