A friend of mine (American) was really stressing herself out about the way the American media frightens its audience into thinking things. It's very hard to know what exactly to say in those situations.

The first one: this is my big problem with the villains -- what does it mean to be motivated "by evil"? Like, practically speaking?

The second: I saw this yesterday, and ... just... words fail. (Interesting too though that I am kind of waiting to see what's at the bottom of it all, and sort of want 'official press' to tell me -- very old media thinking, and entirely the problem here since they've obviously steered clear of the whole thing.)

It's just so different for different people isn't it? And then there's the whole thing that some despicably evil people think they're doing some kind of horribly misguided good. I'm afraid my brain was too fried to contemplate her post - so I linked it instead.
As to the second, both of your reactions passed through my mind too. I was just horrified and felt terribly for this man's family. But then horrific scepticism passed through me and I wondered for whatever reasons it could have been ignored....ugh! I'm too tainted by the manipulating media...
