I love, love, love good urban fantasy novels. However there is a big but there. I want to see new worlds, fantastic magic, case files etc. but virtually every urban fantasy I've read by a woman author contains (most times almost immediately) the "sexy, powerful, mysterious" man that the main character cannot stay away from and "swoons" whenever he'

Have you read Seanan McGuire's October Day novels, or her InCryptid series? They are awesome.

Yes, indeed I have and they are awesome. She is one of the few woman writers that can do both world building that is unique and interesting but never falls for the "template" of half paranormal romance mixed in so much so it takes away from the novel. As I said which bears repeating put it in the paranormal romance section and don't waste my time.
