I will say though that I was intrigued by your inclusion of Steinbeck. Why him? What're your favorite books/stories by him?
Edith Wharton, John Steinbeck, and William Faulkner are my favorite 20th century American novelists. I like most everything I've read by JS, but my favorite is probably The Grapes of Wrath.
Here are the novels of his that I have read:
The Pastures of Heaven (1932) The Red Pony (1933) To A God Unknown (1933) Tortilla Flat (1935) Of Mice and Men (1937) The Long Valley (1938) The Grapes of Wrath (1939) Cannery Row (1945) The Wayward Bus (1947) The Pearl (1948) East of Eden (1952)
I guess I've read about half of his works, and most of the better-known ones.
