Hee, not stupid at all! A remix is when you mix up someone else's fic. The rules are that you have to keep any pairings and main plot points, but you can go nuts with the rest of it. For instance vialethe remixed a story of ghost!Norrington haunting Sparrow on the Black Pearl. There's a throwaway couple of lines when Norrington mentions to Jack that Elizabeth is fine, and Jack wonders how he could possibly know that. Vialethe focused on those meetings - although that's an extreme version, usually it is something like a pov change. The remix profile gives a nice overview of it here. This is the first time I did the 'big' one (minimum word count of 1000), up to now I've been hanging out at remixthedrabble (although they, unfortunately, seem to have called it a day now). It's good fun, and cuts down on a lot of the complicated working out plot stuff! It's also nice reading the remix and the original and seeing where they diverge.
