Day 23 - Prompt: Falling

Setting: The same characters from Day 11's Traditions (Prompt: A dragon and a princess)

This was not how Erik expected to die. Certainly he had been at risk of falling before, including one rather memorable time on a balcony after a half bottle of wine. At least it had been memorable before.

Looking down he could make out people in the fields now. A sudden thought, wondering how they would explain a Baron falling to his death in a bean field left him laughing. Well, if I'm to go at least it's laughing in the face of death. I only wish I could have helped Cecelia further.

One of the farmers looked up, and despite the whistling of the wind he almost thought he could hear shouting as the man raised a hand to point and called out to the rest. The men scattering from the field he was falling towards. Hah! Don't think I've ever scattered anyone like that without being on horseback. Not pointing at me very well as they run eith--

A shadow quickly flashed across the field. Strong taloned feet grasped him across his chest, his fall turning to a flight across the field. Dropping almost low enough to brush the tips of the plants and barely climbing quick enough to keep from crashing into a hedgerow.

"Erik! Please be alive!"

"Ha! Just enjoying a little swim, Princess! What of the other dragon?"

"Behind me I fear, unless he didn't pull up in time."

Looking back and tried to shrug. "Don't see him, but we may have used all our luck with that catch you just made."
