Castiel’s fingers know the path scars trace along Sam’s skin, the way the white tissue cuts his skin across his chest and arms, the few ones that never quite healed well and remain a pale shade of pink, the new ones painted an angry red where Cas can still taste blood.
Sam keeps them as a memory, Castiel knows, a kind of charm against whatever he is to find along the way, of everything he’s hunted and every mistake he made.
