Oh I loved this, bb! That is such an interesting idea to explore, and you did it so well; the flashbacks especially read beautifully. I'm such a total sucker for the show and fandom pulling in bits of real-world mythology. :P

And I love this giving Gabe age and weight and introspection thing. You just made me want to seek out Gabe fic, which, much as I love the guy (because HELLO, TRICKSTEEER), is totally new.

Second, it's a huge compliment that this little piece of whatever made you want to seek out more Gabe fic, and I promise you there are some good ones out there! I personally love digging deep underneath Gabriel to his past, and the great part is there's so much to play with because he's one of the most well-known angels. AND ALSO HELLO HE'S AWESOME

I like that there's this sense that yes, Gabriel now and Gabriel then are different, but that there's still something ephemeral of the Archangel in the Trickster. I can also buy and really enjoy Sam's intellectual curiosity about him and can almost see where it could have gone there, if there had been more time on the show. (Because there really needed to be more time for Sam to hash out his justified anger with Gabriel.)

Nice compare-and-contrast of the brothers Winchester in general :)

I don't know; I usually tend to write a more serious side to Gabriel, so I have that slight disconnect between his past in Heaven and then how he is now always present somewhere in the story? Oh Sam, I bet he would be all over that stuff about the bible and trying to figure out, "omg did that really happen?" (You're right; I would really like to see a fic that dealt with Sam's anger with Gabriel about 'Mystery Spot'.)
