A new story: The Ascent

Jun 26, 2009 21:31

A while ago, cressidarambles gave me a drabble prompt. It was "Beauty." Well, I've finally come up with something, except that it isn't a drabble. *chuckles* I don't even know where it came from -- I was just walking home from work, and by the time I was at my place, I couldn't wait to sit down and type it. :)

So: Faramir, Minas Tirith, post-war.

Oh, this was so nice! I found the ending particularly powerful.

I also thought all the imagery of a land renewed was really nice...with the golden harvest and the light coming through the windows, etc. Well done!

Thank you! :)

This really came as a surprise, when least expected. I admit I sort of wanted a companion piece to a somewhat similar ficlet of mine, set in winter.

Re the imagery, I actually Googled pics of wheat fields and such, to get it all before my eyes. *chuckle*

I'm so glad you liked it! *hugs*

I think it turned out really well, even more so for it having been unexpected. :)

Aha, you had to do research then! ;) I've been using Google Maps quite a bit for the RH fic I'm working on just now (since it mostly happens in real places, even if the characters are fictional). It's amazing what a great resource Google is. :)

It is! Even when you have to deal with fictional places, actually. I've found lots of stuff for my LotR fics there too.

Thanks so much for the review! *grins* And you're totally to blame for the Fin-related bit -- as Cress is for the cherries. :)

I did want to write something, but I really didn't expect this idea, I actually had the Third Age in mind! But then it suddenly changed, and there I was. And I'm glad it turned this way! :)

A very vivid look at Faramir's thoughts.

SQUEE! I checked your LJ at random, since I hadn't managed to catch you online in a bit. I had no idea I'd find this. What a great surprise! I definitely grinned at the reference to cherries. It's a wonderful short snapshot of a happy time. I'm glad you did such a great job with my prompt!

Thanks! *grins happily* In fact, I texted you the day I wrote it, but I guess the message didn't make it to you. I'm so glad you liked this!!

Cherries and all references to little Denethor, I owe to you, of course. *bows*
