I should do one of these for 2011, too.

Airborn is one of my favourite recent YA books/series... I do have a serious soft spot for Kenneth Oppel. I'd read it before, but I listened to the audiobooks this past year, and they were fantastic too.

I love Howl's Moving Castle... and mourn the loss of Diana Wynne Jones. :(

Have you read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke? It's a bit slow to start, but I think you'd enjoy it.

And if you liked Airborn, you might like Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. I say this because it's slightly similar in several areas... and because is the only other YA steampunk-esque series I've read.

I had read Silverwing, and my brother loved that series, but I liked Airborn and its sequels INFINITELY better.

I'll definitely check out Leviathan! I've heard of it, but never read it. And I actually OWN Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. It's been sitting on my shelf for a few years...

Have you read Kenneth Oppel's new book, This Dark Endeavour? It's quite good -- it's a "prequel" to Frankenstein, and the parallels are really interesting. I didn't like it as much as Airborn or Silverwing, but it's also less my style.

I haven't read it yet! I had it out from the library at one point a few months ago, but I had to return it before I had a chance to look at it.
