And now I'm imagining Roy flirting with Huazheng. "She's the daughter of an important tribe leader, surely we must win her favor!"

It's my personal theory that Huang Rong, remembering how it feels to grow up without a mother, lavishes too much attention on Guo Fu, who as a result grows up atrociously spoiled.

The 2008 version made out Guo Jing to be a bit more emotional, and maybe gave him something of a modern perspective as well. Me, I can't see him angsting too much over having killed Chen Xuanfeng, as Chen might have killed him first.

You think RoCH 2006's Guo Fu is not likeable, try the 1984 version (the one with a young and plump-looking Andy Lau as Yang Guo). The girl gets her mother's charm and beauty but, sadly, her father's intellect, and no talent to speak of.

Xiao Zhao and Yin Li's departures in HSDS 2009, from what I can gather, are just like in the novel. And it's sad that 2009's Zhiruo shows some colors later rather than sooner. I'm afraid I might not like this version very much if it shows too much bias in favor of Zhao Min. Not that I don't like her as a character, it's just that I think, for Min to be awesome, it does not have to be at the expense of other female characters.
Maybe Mie Jue sees leadership potential in Zhiruo? Since she does have it.
