For me it seems to be the other way around...it seems to be more fun writing expository technical parts, as opposed to character revealing segments. I think it's because for me, I tend to write scenes like that which involves two people, and while I try to reveal their character through dialogue, somehow I feel the speech tags make it all stilted. Do you have an idea on how to remedy this?

"But you're going home this weekend." It was a statement, not a question.
She shrugged. "You know what family is like."
His laugh was sour. "I guess I do." They were silent for a moment. Then he said, "You're not going to tell them about us, are you?"
"What, and ruin my dad's birthday? What do you think I am, insane? No, I won't tell them until I absolutely have to."
Something like that.
