The man of her dreams: Chapter 2 - The art of persuasion and of faking accidents

Aug 27, 2009 19:36

As promised I hurried to upload the next chapter. I already had chapter 2 written when I uploaded the first, but I wanted to read through it a few times to correct mistakes or to add some ideas I had.
I had a hard time finding a title for this Dx I still don't like it.

title: The man of her dreams

rated: T
(I'm not sure about the rating since this is my first real FF, but I guess it's T.)

summary: In their third year Mamori suddenly finds herself being soppy on a new student. Meanwhile Hiruma has work to do in America. How will he react when he returns?

The art of persuasion and of faking accidents

Mamori was on her way to school when she suddenly saw Sakamoto walking ahead of her. Suzuna’s class did not start as early as hers today so she was alone this time.

‘Maybe Suzuna-chan was right and I should talk to him’ she thought.

Her heart quickened as she fastened her step to close the gap between them. When she finally caught up with him she was too nervous to think of a way to start the conversation. ‘Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod, what should I do?’

Without thinking any longer she intentionally bumped into him. He tripped and nearly fell down.

‘Oh dear, I overdid it’ she became frantic. Her plan was to nudge him a little, not to make him fall down.

“Ah I’m sorry, my fault” she said and bowed, partly of politeness, partly of embarrassment.

‘Well done, you genius’, she thought while bending down, ‘now he thinks you’re some fricking boob. And Hiruma’s bad influence even makes me curse in thoughts…this guy-’

Her track of thoughts was interrupted when Sakamoto who had found back his balance said: “No worries, I’m ok.” He smiled charmingly.

Mamori finally dared to look at him and could not help but notice his eyes. They were greenish blue and she immediately fell in love with them. When she realised that she had stared at him she blushed.

“You are Anezaki-san, aren’t you? Would you like to accompany me? We have the same way after all” he said.

“Sure” Mamori answered shyly.

They did not speak a lot, but Mamori was happy nevertheless.

When Ako and Sara saw the two coming together to class their eyes widened. Mamori had told them about her crush and her inability to talk to Sakamoto and here she was, walking with him to school like couples do. Sakamoto left for his place and Mamori approached her two friends to tell them the whole story.

“Ahhh, don’t worry. He would not have asked you to walk with him if he thought you were a blunderhead” Ako assured her when she told them about her little “accident”.

Mamori smiled gratefully.

“I have an idea. In two weeks there is a party at Oujou School,” Ako told them, “Everyone from Deimon will be there. You should invite him, Mamori. And Sara you could bring Kaito along.”

“Ah, I don’t know…” Mamori did not want to make a fool of herself twice a day and she felt like exactly this would happen if she followed this suggestion.

“Come on, try it at least” Sara attempted to convince her.

“Ask him after school has finished” Ako suggested.

Mamori finally gave in: “Ok, I’ll ask him.” She knew that Ako and Sara only wanted the best for her and were trying to help her. But she really did not feel like asking him after bumping into him like that.

She did not talk Sakamoto after school. Instead she walked home with Suzuna and questioned her about the development with the Devilbats. The Huh brothers and Komusubi had argued even more since Kurita had left and the rest of the team had problems to stop them. Furthermore, they still lacked a lineman and a capable manager.

“What keeps you from doing the job?” Mamori asked the skating girl.

“I don’t know” Suzuna sighed. She did not want to tell her friend that shehad doubts about her abilities.

“Suzuna, you know the rules, don't you?”

“Yes…” the cheerleader admitted.

“And you are pretty perceptive. You like investigating - you even accompanied Sena and Monta when they went to the Teikoku Alexanders.” She made a short pause to let this sink in and then played her trump card: “You don’t have to be me to be the team manager, you know?” She had guessed for some time now why Suzuna was hesitating.

Suzuna kept quiet. Until now she had been wondering if she was enough like Mamori to take over her job. Maybe the former manager was right and she did not have to be like a mother to become the team manager. With Sena she even had a pleasant-natured team captain who would not kick her out for any mistake she made (let alone chase her with gunfire).

“Ok” she finally said, smiling. “I’ll do it!”

“Yaaaay” Mamori cheered and hugged the smaller girl, “You’ll be a great manager! Believe me.”

Suzuna just laughed in response.

Mamori was relieved. With Suzuna as manager one problem was solved. She just could not let go, could she? Somehow even after having left the team she kept things firmly in her hands. ‘If Hiruma had been there, he would have done the same’ she told herself in defence, ‘only he would have used a different method’ she rolled her eyes at this thought.

---------------------

Sorry again for absent Hiruma , he'll return in the next chapter.
I had to invent a party so I chose Oujou School. It might sound very cliché. Maybe it is.. but then I'll try to make it as good as possible :)
