Yeh! another Liketheriver story I never read! sgaavidreader November 19 2012, 02:32:08 UTC
I followed a rec from SGAstoryfinders to this website so I could read a different story by an author I hadn't heard of before, only to find out the name on the site was really you my all-time favorite author. What a great way to spend a Sunday evening. I enjoyed the way you integrated red flags into different aspects of the story, but my favorite part is when the door breaks down and Sheppard doesn't lift his gun. I love the way you allow us to see the feelings between John and Rodney in all of your stories.

Thank so very much! And surprise, it's me! Glad you found me here. And what's the point of SGA fanfic if not to show the feelings between John and Rodney. *G*

This is one of the best things I've ever read. Perfect dialog. Wonderful look at Rodney and John's friendship.

Like sgaavidreader I was struck by the moment when Sheppard doesn't lift his gun.
But, my favorite part was the scene in the storage room. I loved that all through the story we see how much John cares about Rodney, but then he's a snarky semi-asshole to him when Rodney is better and they're talking. They are Exactly Like That. Exactly.

I love the two of them in the storeroom, I think that shows the true nature of their friendship...how they can snark and yet still care deeply for each other without actually saying it. So happy that you enjoyed it, too. Thanks so very much!

Ah, the Jumper zine - such a summer favorite of mine. It always had the most wonderful friendship stories. I really missed having one this year. (I assume there was not one unless I missed it?)

Anyway, this story is a perfect example of the stories there - great characterization - excellent scenario and a wonderful feel-good friendship focus.

First person POV can be tricky, but this one really worked because it was soooo Sheppard all the way.

I especially loved this comment about Ronon:
"No matter how long I know Ronon, I will always be amazed at how brutality and gentleness can reside in one person so easily."

The Jumper zines really are great. I'm pretty sure Brate took some time off last year but she'll be back at Mediawest next year with a crossover zine. I'm doing my best to get her an SGA/Sherlock fic, but the clock is ticking. Yikes! But I'm so happy that you enjoyed the fic. Thanks so much!

That's good news. I don't read much crossover because I don't actually have cable or anything (ironic, really, to be a fanfic reader/writer with no cable or satellite), so I am not familiar with many shows. However, I am always open to a spot of variety in terms of genre. If Brate was putting something like that together, I would certainly be in for buying one. The quality of past zines in terms of the actual physical product and the content speak for themselves.

BTW - I HAVE to add one more point about the story, the flags symbolism specifically. I really meant to include it when I left the comment, but was in a rush at the time. The point has come back to me a few times since then because it was such a powerful part of the story. The red flag imagery was a strong and a very character appropriate analogy to use. I adored the further flag tie-in of the storage closet. That was chilling, and touching and absolutely believable. It was an idea that summed up so much about the inner workings of Sheppard's character.
