[Slugger watches this from the end of the driveway. Why is Death talking to the steps? Upon closer inspection there appears to be something small and furry hiding in the shadows beneath.]

Is it yours?

He just doesn't know it yet. strike_you_out December 4 2010, 23:58:47 UTC
[He lets the leaf drop from his hand and onto the step below. Still grinning.]

I don't mind getting 'mixed up in things'...

[There are some things you should know about your not!great-grandson. For instance, he's evil.]

THAT'S GOOD. AT THE MOMENT WE ALL SEEM TO BE MIXED UP IN THINGS.

[Yes well, he doesn't really get involved with "good" vs "evil" that much. More like Auditors vs humanity.]

[Oh, Death. He meant things that involve killing people. But that's alright, he's sort of distracted with watching the cat.]

[Another thing you should know about your not!great-grandson: he's never petted a cat before. Such a deprived monster-child is he.

He'll just watch curiously from the corner of his eye.]

[Kitty looks over and then walks cautiously over to Slugger.]

[He remains perfectly still while Rincewind sniffs his elbow and stares up at him with enormous cat eyes.

Kittuns how does they work.]

[Even with permission given, Slugger doesn't move. He waits instead until the cat climbs over his shoe and gets close enough to brush its nose and cheeks against his fingers.]

...It tickles.

[Does he dare to scritch its nose? He does.]

[Licks. Then nips. And licks again. Slugger merely watches.]

...It pinches.

[Soon the cat is distracted by the leaf Slugger dropped earlier long enough for him to pet its back experimentally. It's soft. He looks at Death.]

Where did you find it?

[What is this overwhelming urge to keep petting this cat? The moment he tries to stop, it mews at him and he must start petting it again. Death, what have you done to this boy? The next thing you know he might be playing with the cat or, God forbid, cuddling it. For shame!]

Did you name it?
