Death Two: FAMILY VISIT

[You can see Death/an old man as he walks through the town. He is going to visit his Granddaughter because dropping in at random times is what grandfathers do best.

He will be knocking on the door of Susans house.]

[There comes no reply. This could have something to do with school having just let out not too long ago and there's a chance nobody is home yet. However, if Death should try the door knob, he'll find it turns easily to offer access into the house.

Perhaps someone is home and hasn't heard the knocking. Or maybe someone is hoping to encourage intruders...]

[Totally letting himself in.]

SUSAN?

[It's perfectly still inside. Perfectly quiet. The drone father is off at work and the drone kid sister is probably still at school. This is the time of day Slugger values most--the only time when the house is drone-free.

Upstairs in his room, Slugger had just tossed his book-bag onto the floor when he heard someone knocking at the front door. He'd had every intention of ignoring whomever was there... that is, until a familiar voice resonates through the house.

He's halfway down the upstairs hall with a baseball bat in his hands before he remembers, somewhat sadly, that this intruder is someone he probably shouldn't club over the head. So instead he'll make his way sneakily down to the first floor and appear without a sound behind the old man.]

She's not here.

[What? He looks around, ah yes. Susan said she had a child.]

YOU ARE SUSAN'S CHILD?

[Not without a small amount of embarrassment; at least his "mother" isn't a drone.]

...Yes.

I BELIEVE I SPOKE WITH YOU BEFORE.

I AM SUSAN'S GRANDFATHER.

[He looks up at Death with an unreadable expression.]

I was expecting a scythe.

I USUALLY HAVE ONE.

Do you usually have skin?

NO. NOT USUALLY.

[Slugger might just be grinning the smallest of grins. Even Death has been rendered human by Mayfield. Despite being bad news, knowing it makes this monster boy feel less inadequate about his own loss of powers.

He rests the bat upon his shoulder--it appears to have some dents in it made by something other than a baseball--and decides to be polite.]

People call me Lil' Slugger. Pleased to meet you, Mr. Death. [said with a bow of his head]

Does this mean Susan will inherit your position as soul collector?
