Ah!! *happy wriggle* Lurvely, lurvely. ^_^ I loved the cat metaphor played with throughout, and the way you made the unspoken words of the conversation actually fit.

And that paragraph that started with 'It ruffled Jack, as it had in the past...' was very well written, I do think. I got the sensation, from reading it, that Jack was swaying in as best he could, as close he could, right as he was thinking that. It was ... most interesting.

Very fun. Thoroughly delightful. Your James is always so... confidant. And I like the manipulative edge you gave him, plus that little hint of most intriguing backstory. Tease! (You do that wonderfully, as well)

You did, however, misspell 'mischief' at one point. Forgot the 'c'. xD

Thank you, darling.

I had fun experimenting with this particular story-telling style, with the metaphor and poem-references throughout, as well as the spoken and unspoken back-and-forth between the two characters.

I actually struggled a bit with that paragraph, trying to get just the right feeling going in it, so I'm quite glad to hear you make mention of it. Thank you.

Teasing is one of my favorite pastimes. It's fun. And as for Confident!James, well...this is how I come up with story ideas:
Me: ~read read read. think. read read read.~
in the back of my brain: You know...I don't see a lot of (insert unusual idea here) but I think it could be done quite well.
Me: ~read read. think think. Think...thinkthinkthink~ dammit, now I have to write it.

And that's how I end up with this very predatory James Norrington.

Also: typos hate me.

Most welcome!

It looks like fun, that's for sure!!

xD Particularly rabid plotbunnies, eh? Spawned by one James Norrington? Sounds... painful. In a very enjoyable sort of way. (No not that way. -.-)

*g*

YES. This is so fantastic and you've gotten the two of them just perfectly. “I have prey to hunt, challenges and horizons to chase, and, I think, a better hat than yours.". So much love. Thank you for writing this! :)

I adore your James. Especially with his hidden wickedness and dry humour. Also loved the line "and, I think, a better hat than yours". Very well done and would love to see more.

Dry humor is one of the primary reasons I ended up writing Norrington in the first place, so I'm glad that I do it justice. As for seeing more...well, maybe a bit. I'm still working out quite how. It occurs to me that I've not yet written anything with a uniformed commodore facing Jack Sparrow. Hm. I think this could be my chance to explore that a bit.

I've sorely neglected sparrington over the past few months, but finding this was a real treat. Your coolly capable Norrington was lovely, and the idea that he's well in control of his own freedom (and not so wrapped up in duty or obedience as one might think) is marvellous.

I really liked this, good job!

Thank you, my dear. I'm glad that I could treat you, since the discovery of Sparrington as a ship was like a treat to me, especially when I had the luck to come across a few absolute gems early on; It's good to know that I've returned the favor somewhat.
