I wonder if anyone will actually DO a braces tightening, self-discovery ficlet. The itchiness when you mess with your gums for too long? I don't know, I've never, ever seen anything like that...

He considered the pain of getting his braces tightened to be almost exquisite after the first few times. The pain was different from anything else - there wasn't any immediacy, like there was when he got hit in the head with an errant volleyball during a church youth game (damn, those girls were lethal...). This was better. It had more of a build, so it had time to develop and he wasn't in the orthodontist's chair with a hard-on ( ... )
