Excuse Me While I Throw A Fangirl Tantrum

I decided not to F-lock this, but be warned, it's not comm friendly. I think I'm going to be staying out of the Merlin forums for a while. In fact, probably for the rest of the show. If Gwen and Morgana are missing from an episode, it can never just be disappointing, it's somehow sexist. If Gwen doesn't get to use a sword and fight like Xena ( Read more... )

Bravo! I'm sick of all the haters. Over at my H50 comm, they are hatin' on a new love interest. We banned one comm member for suggesting the actress was only staying on the show because she was performing sexual acts on the showrunner among other things. [face palm] We also had to curb the name calling which is bashing and against our rules! Then they were crying "freedom of speech". Gah! You may be able to say it but that doesn't mean you can't get jailed or sued for it if its slander or defamation of character.

The women hate has been going on for years. There was a major issue with it when I was in the Alias comm. There was a even a recent LJ campaign across fandoms to champion female characters, especially those who are regularly bashed. The craziest thing of all is that most of this hate comes from other women. O_o

Sometimes you just have to get away from fandom. Maybe its time to start "shiny" comms, based on Kaylee from Firefly's constant optimistic attitude. No negativity comm. "shiny_camelot"? Hee.

O_o Thankfully I haven't seen anything quite that bad on Merlin forums.

No negativity comm. "shiny_camelot"? Hee.

Cute! I like the name. But I think I'm still too raw from my latest encounter to even consider hopping back into the discussion pool. Besides, I happen to like a little negativity. Sometimes it's more fun to whip out a witty criticism than to squee incoherently. And where would I be without a little sarcasm?

One thing my personal hiatus might actually accomplish is keeping me spoiler-free for next series ;) That'd be a first!

I've been burned out before too. That's when I just stick to my flist. I've surrounded myself with people I respect because they always have an interesting opinion whether it is criticism or praise without devolving into fanwank.

I've been mostly spoiler-free for all my fandoms this fall. It's been freeing.
