Saliva-Covered Goblin's Gold At The End Of The Rainbow

On the upside:
Whew! Episode three wasn't the complete disaster I was fearing it would be. Some of the jokes...OK, many of the gags fell flat, but some of them surprisingly got me laughing.

Lick Envelope Here...No, no...the ENVELOPE )

These recaps are so wonderful. You should share them with the rest of the fandom.

One thing you didn't mention (which I loved) was the secret room in the library filled with magical things. I really hope it becomes Merlin's new hideaway cause keeping that magic book under his bed is a bad idea. Also, who's room was it previously? I'm curious.

Aww, thanks:) I shall henceforth post to Comms.

I almost completely forgot about that room, actually. I didn't even realize that Goblin Gaius didn't have Merlin's magic book until someone else pointed it out:/ But since only the goblin knew about that room, you're totally right: he should use it!

I almost forgot to mention something which occurred to me at the end of the episode: the goblin is now stuck in the lead-lined box, which Uther commanded be locked up in the vaults so, and I quote, "No one will ever open it."

Erm...didn't Morgana steal the Crystal Cave crystal from the vaults last series? Not to mention Uther digging up Cornelius Cigan's tomb, which had been hidden away for good reason.

...just saying.

But then again, what else was he supposed to do? I mean, I bet he knows (it is logical anyway) that a Goblin can only be killed/destroyed with magic and, to his knowledge, there is no one around that HAS magic so ... well. Where else to put it? ^^

I thought they were quite cute together, too, I just felt it was a bit out of character - like two people with huge crushes who don't know what to do about it, as you said.

Thanks for the review, it was really interesting and I actually have to agree with you about the Gwen scenes, I am very sad to say. And I wasn't a big fan of the a/g moments tbh, which really shocked me, it just seemed awkward and a really regression in their relationship and as individual characters. Gwen showed a level of immaturity in this episode that wasn't even present in series 1. What are the writers playing at?!?!?! Particularly after the epic moments from 3.02- it just seemed so comfortable and natural.
It is a really first for me to say that the episode really surpassed expectations- except for the A/G stuff (particularly the Gwen stuff) Not that I blame Angel Coulby's acting at all, she did fantastically given what she had to work with.
Once again, thanks for doing the review, hope you continue :D

I agree with most things - especially that I laughed a lot more than I thought it would. Seeing as Merlin still, in a lot of ways, tries too hard to be a kids show and an adult show at once, I wasn't surprised as all about this episode and took in stride (tried to anyway). Though I myself as well found myself cringing and looking away sometimes because it was just ... too much dumb comedy ... I COULD see and hear millions of little kids laughing so hard they fell of the couch so I kinda, nearly forgave them. I think what made this episode so difficult for me in some respects was that it came after epis 1 and 2 who were, after all, among the very best this show has ever had! It seemed like such a SUDDEN reverse ... but, oh well.

I was still happy that Gwen was there and actually had something proper to do and, well, obviously the Camelot Detective Agency is always superb ;)

Not to mention this weeks episode will probably be all kinds of amazing! PLUS it will have a fair amount of Gwen in it :D

Yeah, I knew they were aiming for that age group, and I feel the same way. Still, I think the sudden reverse in tone and depth was the writers' version of a promise to young families that it's not too scary for their little ones to watch anymore.
