----

Gerard giggled almost silently as Bert trailed his lips down his neck.  The younger man was laying on top of him with his arms either side of his head to support himself, Gerard’s hands on his waist.

Gerard let out a loud squeal as the younger man nibbled lightly on the skin just behind his ear.

“Shh!” Bert giggled. “Someone’ll find us!” He then went straight back to kissing Gerard’s neck, like there wasn’t a beach and a picnic area just beyond the trees and bushes they were hiding behind.

“You- haha... aren’t- haha, oh god!... helping, baby!” he hissed between giggles.

Bert trailed down towards his shoulder, pushing the collar of Gerard’s t-shirt out of the way to gain access to more of his skin. Gerard gasped in shock as Bert bit down on his clavicle, sucking and biting until he was sure he’d left a mark. He pulled off with a smack.

Gerard reached up, grabbed Bert by the nape of his neck and pulled him back down, kissing him full on the lips. He then sat up and rolled them both over so that he was on top of Bert, his slightly larger frame covering the younger man’s smaller one.

“O- kay!” Bert squeaked “I like where this is going!” He giggled.

Gerard leaned down, covering Bert’s mouth with his own to silence him. “You’re gonna get us busted, Bertie,” he mumbled against his lips “And that wouldn’t be very fun, now would it?” With that he leaned back down, kissing him again.

They were still kissing when they heard it.

“Mommy! There’s people kissing back here!”

They froze, breaking apart to look over at the young boy who was staring at them from near some bushes, pointing accusingly.

“What?” a woman’s voice called.

“There’s two people back here! And they were kissing!”

“Quick, Gee!” Bert whispered “Get off of me and curl up against me really tight. Pretend you’re a girl.”

“Why do I have to be the girl?”

“Because I’ve got facial hair and you don’t!”

Gerard nodded, sliding off of Bert to lay beside him. He watched Bert sit up slightly to tuck his hair down the back of his shirt while the little boy was looking away to beckon for his mother.

A woman pushed through the bushes. Gerard let out a soft feminine gasp, ducking his head down, leaving only his eyes peering up at her. She blinked at them in shock.

“See!” the little boy yelled “I wasn’t lying!”

“I guess you weren’t, sweetie. Why don’t you go play with your sister?”

“But, mom-!”

“Go play with your sister!” she growled. The little boy ran off. She then turned to them. “What’re you two doing?”

Gerard tucked his head down into Bert’s chest, not quite having to feign embarrassment. Bert chuckled nervously.

“Sorry, ma’am, we didn’t think anyone would find us,” he said.

“Why would you do that near a place where children are?

“I’m sorry,” Gerard chipped in, his voice taking on an almost chime-like, feminine lilt. Bert watched as he peeked up, looking at the woman from over Bert’s chest with wide eyes. “We didn’t mean for that to happen. We were just playing around and it got a little out of hand. We weren’t gonna go any further, I swear. Don’t wanna spoil anything for the big day.”

The lady turned to look at what she believed was a young woman in shock. Bert turned to look too.

“We’re getting married in a few days and our parents are being so fussy that we just... we needed to get away for the day. We weren’t gonna do anything else.”

The woman smiled sweetly at them. “I remember how that was,” she laughed “Well, just so long as you don’t do anything else - and maybe you should move. Don’t want any more kids walking across you two.”

Bert and Gerard both smiled up at the woman.

“I’ve intruded for long enough. I’ll leave you two alone. Oh, and congratulations!” With that, she smiled a little bit wider before walking away.

They held their breath until they were certain she was gone.

Gerard dropped his head onto Bert’s chest at the same time that Bert let his head fall back onto the ground.

“Phew...”

Gerard started laughing against his chest.

“Stop laughing!” Bert chuckled, swatting at Gerard. “Dick!”

“Oh, come on! You gotta admit that was a great save!”

“It was....” Bert conceded “But she’s right, we should move.”

----

They rolled into La Grande, Oregon just after 10 that night.

“I’m parking the car, and going to sleep in here,” Gerard declared.

Bert nodded sleepily. “I’m in.”

Gerard drove around for a few minutes until they found a park. They parked in the parking lot, crawled into the backseat together and fell asleep.

-----Day 26-----

Gerard woke that morning to find Bert laying comfortably on top of him. For Gerard however, the arrangement was far from comfortable. One of Bert’s elbows was lodged just under his ribcage - or at least, that’s how it felt to him. He suspected that that elbow was the reason he’d woken up in the first place.

“Bert?” he called “Bert?” His only response was drowsy snuffling and the shifting of the elbow deeper under his ribs. “Bert!” He gave him a light shove. Bert started snoring. “Great!” Gerard sighed exasperatedly. “Wake up, fuckwit! You’re crushing my lungs! BERT!” All at once he snorted and he jumped, his eyes flying open as he accidentally threw himself sideways and off of Gerard. He fell and found himself lodged between the two sets of seats again.

“Well fuck me!” he yelled.

“Not right now...” Gerard sighed, rubbing the sore spot on his ribs where Bert’s elbow had been. He sat up and shifted down the seat before leaning down to help the younger man.

----

“Gas...” Gerard sighed, staring down.

Bert shifted slightly away from him. “Eew.”

“No,” the older man groaned before turning to look at Bert. “The car, dipshit. It needs gas again.”

“But...! Oh fuck!” Bert yelled “We need money for that!”

Gerard chuckled weakly, then frowned. “We may have to start using our cards again.”

“Yeah, I know. I just hope they can’t or won’t track us on them.”

“Hmm....”

----

They reached Seattle by late afternoon.

“Mmm... fuck it... Bertie, can we stay in Seattle tonight?” Gerard asked sleepily from the driver’s seat.

“I thought we were going to Seattle,” Bert replied, sounding a little bit pissy and a lot exhausted.

“Hmm... I lied.” Gerard looked over and smiled at him. “Let’s go get dinner and then find somewhere to rest - hotel, motel, park....”

Bert’s jaw was hanging partially open. “You....lied to me...”

“Yep.”

“Why?”

“You’ll like the surprise,” Gerard said consolingly.

“No, why did you lie to me?”

“You’ve lied to me on this trip too, honey, so don’t you act all high and fucking mighty.”

Bert frowned and looked away.

-----Day 27-----

“Hey, Bert?” was the first thing Gerard said after waking up.

“Yeah...?” came the drowsy reply from under the blankets.

“What ever happened to your cell phone?”

“Why?”

“It’s been ringing for about 5 minutes.”

“Oh crap...”

“What’s it doing on? I thought you were keeping it switched off.”

“I was...” Bert pushed the covers down and crawled to the edge of the bed, picking up his pants from the night before off the floor. “I brought it up last night to charge it just in case. I guess it switched itself on.” He fished out his phone. It stopped ringing. “There. The issue resolved itself,” he declared. He had just set it down when it started ringing again.

“You better answer it. Who is it?”

“Uhhh.... ah, it’s Frank.” He hit the answer key. “Hey, Frankie....” Gerard watched his face fall. “Um... okay, just a second...”

“What’s wrong?” Gerard asked.

“It’s for you....and, uh... it’s your brother...”
