um.. sharing day?!
In the same vein as the last post, I have this one. The idea is stolen from grrrlishgrin.
Recently, i felt like meeting new people,especially in Chicago (where we will be moving in a few months) and i added a bunch of interesting journals to my friendslist. My journal is several years old and i usually take for granted that people already know where i come from, but i thought i'd throw out an introductory post for anyone new who cares to read it. this is also an opportunity for new and old lj-friends to tell me random things about yourselves or ask the most obvious questions.
here we go:
1. i'm andrew.
2. i'm 29
3. i was born and raised in a suburb of NYC, but spent the last 10 years in Baltimore, and now live in Germany.
4. i have a partner, Marion, who is German. She will be a PhD student in the fall.
5. we're moving to chicago for her PhD. I've never been there before.
6. marion and i met in baltimore, while she was a 'visiting graduate student' and I worked at Johns Hopkins.
7. i hate to identify myself by my jobs, but i have been a middle school teacher, a bike mechanic, a medical conference coordinator, and most recently, an accountant
8. i have two sisters; both my parents are alive, but they are divorced. Mom is a lesbian
9. I was raised Catholic and always went to Catholic schools. I am beginning to appreciate my faith again.
10. I used to be athletic, but I've gotten quite lazy.
11. Despite being lazy, I still love riding my bike everywhere, and I can't wait to have it back.
12. I have asthma, allergies to tons of plants and animals, and tend to have eczema now and again (all of which doesn't help my nerd-status)
13. i used to be a lot more radical than i am now. I helped organize with Anti-Racist Action on LI, and was a member of RASH in NYC. In college, I helped start an outreach program aimed at middle-school aged children in the neighborhoods around Johns Hopkins Hospital.
14. I tend to be very happy just sitting at home alone or with Marion, but sometimes I get a really intense desire to get lost in a crowd or run around with a handful of close friends.
15. i have some 'deviant' preferences when it comes to relationship setups and sexual behavior.
16. I studied writing and photography in college; i was pretty good at both. I haven't done much with either in a long time. I also studied Latin, which I also don't use and mostly forget now.
17. The only surgery I ever had was some oral surgery before I got braces.
18. The only body part that I have ever broken was my nose, but i broke that several times.
19. I sweat A LOT in the summer. My body temp tends to run high anyway (i'm a good heater in the winter).
20. I have strong desires to create things, but I rarely follow through. I hope to make the time and effort to learn frame-building soon.
21. I make contingency plans for disasters. (a bit of a survivalist)
22. i'm starting to worry more about getting a belly. It's a family trait to have HUGE guts, so I am very aware of it. Yet, I have been doing little to avoid it. I still eat like crap and exercise too infrequently.
23. I appreciate people who do not conform to norms 'just because.' I like it when people are aware of their choices, even if that choice is normative, but it bothers me when people take things for granted.
