open road song

planning this trip, i had a joke (not a ha-ha joke, but... well, you get it) with seaforanswers. it started at 4 a.m. nj time one night when, as usual, i could not fucking sleep. i sat at my computer and typed the names of 11 states to her. 'this,' i said, 'is the distance from A to where you'd be ( Read more... )

feelin' better now, pictures, operation gtfo 2008, yay!, movin' along, friends, photos between here and there, scratch that off the to-do list

woo hoooo!!

i think everyone in the US should drive across the country at some point in their life if they can! i mean, as long as it's for a good reason, not because they're being chased by cops or something! having done the southern route i'd love to try the northern some day. the complete emptiness of the southwest is similar to the emptiness of the plains states, but with the occasional cactus. it's so weird when you're from NJ to be in those sparsely populated states. i wish i'd taken pictures!

i'm so happy for you and looking forward to hearing all about what happens next! i'll do my best to keep new jersey together by myself!

i still think sometimes when i'm heading out west to see my friends in PA that if i just kept driving for 5 days i'd be in california. but i should probably tell brian if i ever decide to do that! ;)

J. and i are getting along just fine! he put a comic strip up on the wall about a sewing machine possessed by satan, is that me or what? and he's planning a tea and sandwich afternoon next week. he still owes us cupcakes though.

he's an awesome guy. a very good choice for passing the mess-press torch. :) and give him hell on the cupcakes! tell him if he could badger me about a grilled cheese sandwich for months, you guys are owed your goodies you actually PAID for. hehe.

Ohio is the most boring state ever ever ever ever! I will never drive through it again. Aww Illinois! My future home!

you're living in illinois?! wot? are you planning on moving, or is this just a 'one of these days' type thing?

Nope. I want to move there within a year or so if all goes well financially.

I sometimes forget that not everybody grew up like I did in the passenger seat of a big rig, and that not everybody has seen the country like that either. It catches me off guard when people say things like "I've never been across the Mississippi river." (More especially since I grew up next to it. It got crossed a lot.) But it never fails to make me smile when somebody else gets the wonder and awesomeness of this amazing country we live in. I'm so glad you got that opportunity, hon.

And I'm so glad you're home.
