The badges are what you get for beating these like... guys that I guess are the best of the best.
It's for bragging rights more than anything else, I guess.
[Heather had only ever known Snake at this age, although he'd told her how old he really was... it was surreal, that was for sure... although, still being pretty young, the forties still seemed a good long ways off. It probably wouldn't occur to her just how young forty-something really was for a good long while. Snake could have had so much time left...]
