It's amazing how much past experiences can colour one's opinions of such simple things as tournures de phrase like this one. Suffice to say that though I am healing, I do not think I would react well were someone to say such a thing to me in the near future.

I do kind of think (as mentioned below), this playfully uttered "during" might be ok with me right now.

Tone of voice would have a large impact on my reaction, I think. As would specific phrasing.
Something like "you're earning your breakfast" would be less upsetting than "come earn your breakfast". Whereas I'm sure that, in the past, I would have taken the latter as a challenge, I'd likely misinterpret it as a demand now. :/

Context is Key.

Whereas I'm sure that, in the past, I would have taken the latter as a challenge, I'd likely misinterpret it as a demand now.

Exactly.

Sounds to me like something appropriate to say during but not before the act....

Don't go quoting me no that... I have also been known to wondering if the pope had died yet during ( he did the afternoon after! ) so I am not a reference on appropriate things to say during.

No, I can see how that could work during better than before. (Or, you know, as a comment the next morning.)

Long ago and far away, I had a pillow case that read "make me late for breakfast".

Which somehow seems more playful.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I feel I'm ok with that version.
