Natsukawa Rimi - Famureuta

May 21, 2006 12:46

I found Famureuta in a bargain bin while CD-shopping. After hazarding a guess about Natsukawa Rimi's musical style from the cover, I decided I might as well give her a try. A google search when I returned home revealed that she was an Okinawan musician born on Ishigaki island, and had (as artists tend to do) covered Shimauta. I chuckled to myself, ( Read more... )

I took this and I have to say, my favourite song from the album would most likely be Ten no Kumoriuta. I found myself listening to it repeatedly since I downloaded it. I also grabbed both of the Corrinne May albums :) thank you for these.

That was the one that struck me on my first listen, too (though I only knew it as 'track 4' at the time). I've since grown to like some others a lot, but Ten no Kumoriuta would still probably be the track I'd recommend off that album. =P

You're welcome, and hope you like the Corrinne May!

Thanks for the post, I'm listening to Ten no kumoriuta now.
Have you heard Natsukawa Rimi's "Nada sou sou" (Namida? sou sou)? I love that song.

I only have the duet version off Rimits, but if that's anything to go by, it's a lovely song. :) Not sure how it compares with the original, though...

I've heard four versions of that song, but never the duet!
The first (original) version is by Begin, and the second version is by them as well, but in "Uchinaaguchi" (Okinawan). The third is Natsukawa Rimi's, which many consider the best (the song didn't become a hit until she sang it). And then Keali'l Reichel released a "Hawaiian" version "Ka Nohona Pili Kai.

Ahh. I would love to hear Ka Nohona Pili Kai - covers of any kind fascinate me, especially those done in other languages. Thanks for the heads up.

I actually have an instrumental version by 12 Girls Band. Totally unexpected, too. Needless to say, I was more than a little bit shocked. XD

Just downloaded the rest of the songs here, and I think these are "lullabies." At least I recognize a couple as traditional Japanese lullabies. Yeah, not so Okinawan in style, at least not consistantly. Still good easy listening music! Thanks again.

Oh, thank you! I had absolutely no idea; one or two sounded familiar, sort of, but I couldn't place them, and I hadn't heard the rest before. Glad someone agrees with me on the not-quite-Okinawan thing. ^^
