Home, Sweet Home

And after 12 hours' sleep, I'm even somewhat coherent. This weekend is dedicated to getting my sleep schedule back on track for this time zone. Shouldn't be too bad--I should have just gone to bed about 10-10:30 last night, instead of staying up 'til midnightish. Or perhaps if I had gotten a moderate amount of sleep on the flights back ( Read more... )

Chalk me up on the list of annoying parents who WILL take their infants on a plane. D and I are flying to Vegas in October when Louise will be five months old.

Some moms are breast-feeding, ya know, and CAN'T leave their children behind. Some moms don't WANT to, either.

Wow. It's a 12-hour flight to Vegas? Y'all need to find a new airline.

Okay, I'm with trix1e up there - I am going to visit my family in Seattle for Christmas, and I am going to take Liam. No, it's not a 12 hour flight, but if I were going to go visit my husband's family in Mississippi, I'd still take the baby. I'm not going to stop breastfeeding for two weeks and abandon my baby. Nor am I going to stop having a life (or if I do, I'm going all the way and really stopping my life). ;p

On a more positive note, glad you (mostly) enjoyed your trip. :)

If the flight to visit your husband's family in Mississippi is a 12-hour flight, you'd still need to get a new airline. It's probably impossible to get a 12-hour single flight and still remain within the continental US. My LA-to-Atlanta flight was only a bit over 4. Atlanta to Honolulu is only about 9-1/2 hours, though I'd probably be tempted to apply the rant to one that long, as well.

And honestly, said LA-to-Atlanta flight also had small munchkins (infants and at least one toddler), and they were quite bearable. People aren't necessarily expected to sleep (nor typically need to sleep due to the nature of the flight as opposed to the nature of the person) on such flights, so it's not a big deal if one doesn't. A 12-hour flight is a horse of a totally different colour than what most people are used to, and a lot longer to be cooped and cramped than the times in flight with which most people are accustomed. Direct comparisons to what one normally does with running around the continental US leads into a fallacy, and implying that I ( ... )

Fair enough on the specialized rant. I've just had enough people make nasty comments about Liam while out to lunch, shopping, or (horror of horrors) when I dare to feed him in public that I tend to see red on such subjects. :)

I think it made it worse that I like you and find you to be generally very reasonable, so I didn't want to think you were a baby-hater. For the record, I wouldn't subject a baby to a 12 hour flight for anything less than a full-on family reunion or emergency!

Of course it's pretty obnoxious to expose everyone on a plane to a fussy baby for 12 hours, but what about the guy next to you with the stinky gas? Or the lady in the window seat beyond him with the overactive bladder?

Airplanes are a shitty way to travel anywhere.

That's it! I'm not going to Europe again until they invent a transporter!!!
