Stand back, I'm doing Science!

As I mentioned last week, I set out to do some experimentin' this weekend. The question: Would starch tinted with beets wash clean out of linen? ( Make your wagers now! )

OK, I am surprised that the beet color washed out so easily. Go Woolite!

That is a great experiment, and what an interesting surprise!

I think you need to do a test strip on the yellow linen, and see how well it holds the color in the sun. cover half the colored portion of linen with a piece of cardboard, and leave the other half open to view. Stick it in the window for a few days or longer, and see what changes happen in the sun. More for my curiosity as to how long it would last.

But man, that is interesting with the carrot tops. I want to try it for a perma-yellow ruff or something fun.

I can do that (with the yellow test strip). It's not like I was going to do anything else with it! :-) I'll let you know how it goes.

You might try using a different detergent or soap next time. It could make a difference.

One final experiment for the yellow, Put the linen in a strip of aluminum foil covering it 1/2 way, then tape it into the sunniest window in your house for a month. if it i water fast, and light fast you have a great dye.

Ok! I've got it in my sewing room window covered up halfway. I'll let you all know what happens! :-)
