Last year Sansa had thought that a pony was a bit much of a present for a child Eddara's age even though Eddara had been thrilled enough to be on her best behaviour of days because of it. But this year she would have given much for something as practical as a pony. The
little purple jeep - something could only identify from the name on the box - on the other hand had been driving her quite mad for a week now.
And it wasn't as if Eddara was misbehaving with it. She was content to drive round in circles and when she bumped into things it seemed genuinely accidental. Sansa was still sure that inevitably she would end up hurting one of the puppies who were not puppy sized at all now and were stalking the small moving thing quite puzzled as to what Eddara was doing. And if Eddara was not allowed to play with it her reaction varied from tantrum to pleading that verged on well behaved. Sansa did not have the heart to say no when Eddara asked so nicely. But she had banned the jeep from the house and she could not help dreading sitting outside. Even staying on the shade of the porch - Sansa found herself struggling with the heat. She had done since the snow had vanished and even inside the house she found herself bothered at times.
The last time Sansa had been alone - Eddara had gone riding with Caspian, Sansa had stripped to as little as was seemly during the day and spent the time lying down struggling to get comfortable and thinking longingly of the snow. The baby had kicked the whole time too which Sansa took to mean he didn't like the heat either. She was sure she'd get used to it soon enough though - she'd been pregnant with Eddara in the middle of the island summer and it hadn't seemed this bad. Though her temper had not always been what it should be. Today even more than usual the sound of the car seemed to drill into Sansa's head and she meant to call Eddara over to say it was time to go in. But when she went to stand she felt her balance go and then felt herself falling - the next thing she knew Eddara was shrieking and patting at her face in a panic and Sansa's head hurt. She tried to sit up and calm Eddara down but that only produced another wave of dizziness and she covered her mouth trying not to retch.
