The Mother gives the gift of life,

When Sansa woke, it was pitch dark outside and she'd been so deeply asleep it took her some time to realise what had woken her. She snuggled into her blankets and a moment later had an answer when a pain rippled through her abdomen. Oh, she thought, that again. She reluctantly sat up and tried to remind herself that she had read false labour ( Read more... )

Moril woke up when a wolf started howling outside. Worried, he'd wrapped a blanket around himself and staggered outside, where Lady had immediately tried to drag him toward Summerfell. He'd managed to disattach himself long enough to pull on clothes and clamber sleepily onto Ynen's back, and holding onto the horse's mane was considerably easier than walking.

Once there, he had gathered that Sansa was having the baby, but just what he was supposed to do with himself for the next several hours was a complete loss, so he'd gone away, fetched some breakfast, and brought it back before anything was actually announced. The rest of the time he sat in the corner with a bit of paper over his knees and wrote music, and looked very vague, and noticed things.

He figured he'd be among the last to go talk to Sansa, but that was all right, he was there more as a proxy for Kialan than anything and he could be patient. But he does spy an opportunity at last, and pokes his head inside the door.

"Sansa? Are you awake?"

"Yes," Sansa said and then adds, "we both are." Even saying that makes Sansa beam. She was going to ask someone to go and tell Moril the news but it obviously it seems she didn't need too. Then she swallows to see Moril and looks at again at Eddara trying to see something of Kialan in her, but she can't not yet.

"It's a girl," she said in case no-one had said to him which seems unlikely, "Eddara Manaliabrid," she adds though they discussed names once. "Eddara, this is your Uncle Moril," she whispers to the baby.

"Eddara Manaliabrid Kialansdaughter Snow," Moril says with a smile; he remembers having enough discussions with Sansa about potential names. "A mouthful even for me." Looking at her makes his stomach twist up a bit more than he expected it to, as it turns out.

Sansa thinks of silly questions then, ones Moril likely couldn't answer even if she should ask. "I can't tell if she looks like him yet," she said instead. "She's too new."

"She's managed to escape without his nose," Moril observes with a smile, because he notices things. "But I think she does, in her face. More probably as she gets older."

Sansa smiles at that though she didn't mean to and runs one fingertip over the end of Eddara's tiny nose. Eddara opens her mouth at this new sensation and then closes it seeming a little befuddled. "I suppose I would have noticed that right away," she admits. Sansa would like to see something of Kialan in his daughter so she hopes Moril is right.

"I should think so," Moril agrees brightly. He fishes around in his pocket till he comes out with a little wooden figure, half-finished, the workmanship still too rough to tell what it was once meant to be. "I brought this for her," he says, a bit unnecessarily, and sets it on the table.

"Oh thank you," said Sansa with another genuine bright smile shifting Eddara to reach for the carving. "Look, Eddara. Uncle Moril brought you a . . a present," she finished in a small voice as she realises what the present is. "A present from your father," she said. Running one finger over the unfinished figure of a Undying of Dalemark. "I'll keep it with the Weaver," she said her voice trembling slightly, "and explain it properly when she's older."

"I know it isn't finished," Moril says, watching her carefully with a very vague look, "and I'm honestly not sure just who it's even meant to be. But I thought she ought to have it."

"I'm very grateful for it anyway," said Sansa pulling herself together slightly, she'd blame hormones for the weepiness but Moril knows her too well. "I'm sure she will be too."

Moril squeezes Sansa's hand lightly. "I should let you rest."

"Yes," said Sansa as she glances down at Eddara and isn't sure it's that simple but she should try. "I'm glad you came," she said.

"I'll be back in the morning," Moril assures her, "if not before that. I just don't want to be in the way."

"You aren't," said Sansa at once, she was always glad to see Moril, especially given they were family now. "But I shall see you in the morning then."

Moril grins at her. "Shows what you know. It's chaos outside the door, you know, with everyone running around excited and not knowing what to do." He tilts his head suddenly, thoughtful. "Do you think a lullaby might help?"

Sansa had not meant to cause chaos but she can hardly help it. She can't believe she didn't think of a lullaby, at the very least Eddara liked music when she was in Sansa so there is no reason to think she would not now she was born and seemingly very interested in the world. "I'm sure it might," she said. "I should have thought of that myself."
