The Mother gives the gift of life,

When Sansa woke, it was pitch dark outside and she'd been so deeply asleep it took her some time to realise what had woken her. She snuggled into her blankets and a moment later had an answer when a pain rippled through her abdomen. Oh, she thought, that again. She reluctantly sat up and tried to remind herself that she had read false labour ( Read more... )

Grey Wind beats Robb to the clinic, even allowing for having to stop and wait for someone to open doors. He trots in quite determinedly and lets out a loud, commanding bark as Robb skids across the floor to join him.

It was rather late, but I was in the clinic, as I was quite unable to sleep. The clinic was quiet and was mostly empty save for Dr. Wilson and myself, so it was with some surprise that we looked up to see Sansa's brother and his wolf burst into the room. "Is it Sansa?" I asked at once, thinking that she was likely the only reason for him to be in such a hurry.

"She's not due for another two weeks," Wilson said, anxiously looking up from a stack of files and over to Robb Stark, whom he'd never formally met. "How close were her pains coming when you left?"

He knew this could be another case of false labor, but it could also be the real thing. Sansa was so young.

"I don't know," Robb snaps, not sure how he's supposed to have any idea what's going on inside Sansa's body. "The wolves woke us up and she said to fetch a doctor. That's what I'm doing."

Two weeks wasn't terribly early, not enough for outright panic, but given Sansa's young age they could have been very important weeks. "I'll be right there," I said, starting to gather up the necessary supplies. If it turned out to be a false alarm, much of it could simply be left there, as it would be needed soon enough. Turning to Dr Wilson, I added, "Since she's so early, it might be good to have another doctor around." I didn't specify exactly why in front of Sansa's brother, but Wilson would know what I meant, and as Sansa had seen Dr Wilson on on occasion in addition to me, she would be more comfortable around him than a doctor she did not know, given her age and background.

Wilson's first thought was to run downstairs and try to wake Addison, but given their last conversation, she might not be in her room. They didn't know how much time they had, so it wasn't worth the effort.

"I'd be glad to help, anything you need," he said to Claire as he gathered things like gloves and plenty of clean towels. At least they already had a fully stocked medical bag available, and he noticed that she had it out.

"Lead the way, sir," he said to Robb, speaking calmly.

Robb nods, turning in some relief once the doctors have fetched what they need and striding out of the clinic, back toard Summerfell. Grey Wind barks again, waiting for the humans to leave before trotting after them like a herding dog.
