When Sansa woke, it was pitch dark outside and she'd been so deeply asleep it took her some time to realise what had woken her. She snuggled into her blankets and a moment later had an answer when a pain rippled through her abdomen. Oh, she thought, that again. She reluctantly sat up and tried to remind herself that she had read false labour ( Read more... )

Wolves are pack animals through and through, especially where pups are concerned. Grey Wind is woken by Lady's distress, and already tugging lightly at Robb's splayed arm with his teeth when Sansa staggers back inside.

He wakes with a start, and for a brief scattered moment his eyes are pale and wild in the darkness. Being woken by a wolf's teeth is never a sign that all is well, after all.

"What is it?" he hisses, at his wolf or at anyone, sounding more alert than he feels.

"Robb?" said Sansa feeling relief at the sound of his voice. At least he seems to be up so she doesn't have to really disturb anyone by waking them. Not that she may have much of a choice for long as she bites back a exclaimation of pain. "Robb, I need you to go and get a doctor."

Robb sits bolt upright at that, yanking his arm back out of Grey Wind's mouth. "And bring them back here?" he asks, just to clarify, because he knows they've talked about this before but he's really not all that awake yet.

"Yes!" said Sansa who quite forgot about her intent to not wake the rest of the household so keen was she to let Robb know it was urgent. "Right now Robb!" She wipes at her face uncertain what it is she can feel there and is surprised when her hand comes away damp. She hadn't realised she was crying.

Robb's first instinct is to wake someone else, but another glance at Sansa's urgent face convinces him that task can be left to the wolves or his sister's cries. He tugs a pair of jeans on as quick as he can and takes off barefoot and shirtless for the door.

Sansa watches him go with a grateful measure of relief and then is reminded forcefully that this process will not wait til the doctor arrives. Grey Wind follows Robb and Sansa is surprised when Lady licks her hand once in comfort, barks twice loudly and follows them out the door. Sansa eyes the stairs and supposes she ought to try heading back to her room. She knew that walking about was meant to help in the early so there wasn't any reason why she couldn't. Except she didn't want to, everything hurt and she wanted to go back to bed, go back to sleep and wake up to find out this wasn't true and the baby wasn't coming early.
