The Mother gives the gift of life,

When Sansa woke, it was pitch dark outside and she'd been so deeply asleep it took her some time to realise what had woken her. She snuggled into her blankets and a moment later had an answer when a pain rippled through her abdomen. Oh, she thought, that again. She reluctantly sat up and tried to remind herself that she had read false labour strengthened the womb. She clambered out of bed, knowing she would not sleep while this was going on, movement had helped last time and she thought she might go down and get some air, pace around the fire pit or something. She would not go far from home this time and certain not at this hour.

She was pulling a cloak on over her nightgown when she felt a wave of dizziness and so she sat on the bed, waiting for her sense of balance to return and feeling her belly tighten. It seemed even worse this time but she was distracted from that by the sneaking sensation she was going to be sick. Some air, she decided, that would help and if she were sick it would be better if she were outside anyway. (She could hardly run out as she used to early in her pregnancy, she could barely move at all, it seemed some days.)

She took a deep breath and padded down the stairs as quietly as she could followed closely by Lady, who whined at her. Sansa reaches down to pet her comfortingly, "I won't go far," she assures the wolf. It's a good thing the direwolves are the size they are or Sansa would never be able to reach her (or if she did she would not be able to get up again.) She opened the door to Summerfell and clings to the door frame briefly as she feels dizzy again, it passes much quicker with the night breeze in her face and she takes tiny steps down to the firepit shivering and pulling the cloak tighter.

She paces round the fire pit slowly, followed closely by Lady who would not let Sansa be not even for a moment. Sansa did not know if it was the fact that she was tired and felt sick but this was worse again than last time. Walking did not seem to dull the pain like it had before and the tightening in her belly was more intense. She remembered Dr.Wilsons words, that this had been happening all along and it was only now she could feel it.

Lady barked at her and Sansa stared wondering, "shh," she said, "you'll wake . . . ohhh." Sansa's breath left her as pain rippled through her abdomen, she doubled over a little and then horrifyingly she felt a warm dampness on her inner thighs. There is a stain on her night gown now and Sansa knows what it is as much as it frightens her to think on it. Lady gives her a knowing look and Sansa tries not to tremble as she heads back inside hurriedly to wake someone.
