I adore Annie. Sometimes, Annie came dangerously close to becoming a Mary Sue but she never did. I think the reason is because Annie had all the qualities you portray her as having, especially her snarkiness, which come across realy well in this fic! It is brilliant.
Annie month is a fantastic idea!

Oh, yes - Annie had the potential to be too idealised, but the writers did pull away from that, and Liz was fantastic at portraying multiple sides to Annie's character.

I don't think Annie's as contradictory as Gene as a character, but because we see a lot less of her, it does seem like it. And then Matt and Ash decided they needed to ramp up the tension between her and Sam to keep their relationship interesting, so that added some disparity.
