The 'little human parts of Gene Hunt' is just perfect. Really is. Everything about this ficlet is so gorgeous, from the pacing to the segmenting to the perfectly in character dialogue, and that warm, intimate ending with Sam and Gene is just. It's too good. *smooshes you in hug* <33333333

Awwww! I love that the tone changes at the end--that Gene's little touch on his hand shifts everything, breaks Sam out of his vaguely anxious mood into genuine happiness!

Yessss, they're really the stars of this little vignette <3 Gene does just have a way of helping Sam out even when he doesn't know that's what he needs. Part of why I love them so much.

I love that Sam got to have such perfect little moments with each member of the team, and all of them were beautifully characterized. The grudging but generally good-natured respect from Ray, Chris's slightly fumbling admiration, Phyllis and her nerves of steel, and Annie's subtle sweetness.

And then in the end, it's Sam and Gene, just the way it should be! There are things that these two don't need to say to each other, and you've conveyed that well-- the comfort they have in each other's presence and the small touches say it all.

Not to mention, of course it gives Sam some sort of weird satisfaction for Gene to call him 'clever'! It hearkens back to the whole "Let me show you how clever I am" thing from S01E05, which I'm sure neither of them have forgotten. ;D

Yessss, yes yes. I'm really glad you thought the character voices were on for the little bits that featured characters other than Sam and Gene. But the entire thing built up to them at the end.

And yes, yes, I'ms ure they never forgot that XD I know I haven't. (Been trying to gif that actually, and use text on the graphics as well, whee.) I wanted Gene to say something to, but I knew he had to be indirect about it because... that just seemed so much true to form for him.
