Reccing has been on my mind, mostly because I think it's never a bad time to show some love for all the amazingness in the lifein1973 archives, and because the new adoring fans around here may have missed some gems from the past. With that out of the way, here are my faves... and I do hope this encourages others to rec their favorites as well.

This is brilliant for a billion reasons; the storytelling, the time travel, them being them, the sound effects, Sam programming in "Gladys" as his name on Gene's phone, etc etc etc. Just go admire it!
Sassy coppers.
It's hardhardhard to pick a favorite artwork by little_cello. So very hard. So very lovely to have such a prolific and inspired artist around! I'm going with this one, because while I love the more cartoony styles she sometimes uses, I really adore the more realistic approach. Such loving detail, and such affection between the two!

So super-amazing I can't even. ALL of Fern's neckless doodles are just delightful and sweet and every type of emotion, but these are the piece de resistance. So much versatility and goodness!
Life on Mars/Doctor Who Crossover by lacidiana.
The faces, the perfectly stylized faces and expressions, so recognizable in an instant! Sam's furrowed brow of worry! And the anticipation of someday reading a fic to go with this!

Feriowind made a brief sojourn in Life on Mars land, and I very much enjoyed the art - so beautifully moody and angsty, and the colors so vintage and evocative...

Because I could actually pick 10 works of art all by fern_tree. So damn sweet. beautiful colors. Both of their faces are PERFECT.

This was an illustration for dakfinv's Life on Mars Big Bang story, and oh, that was a wonderful time as the Big Bang pulled in some artists who hadn't been active in this fandom, and some fantastic art resulted. I adore this piece to no end. The inspiration and the execution are sheer brilliance.

I've never drawn the Test Card Girl myself, but I can certainly appreciate when she's done well by another artist, and this is probably the most amazing rendition I've ever seen. It's like a book illustration. Gorgeous.
It's just magic by gorrlaus.
This artist did several completely amazing and painterly works in the fandom, and not only are they gorgeously rendered, they're full of emotion and capture the weird beauty of 1973 that comes through in canon. And Chris, oh Chris.

I had to include a piece by this wonderful artist. We kinda started up in the fandom around the same time, and I was always a huge fan. This is probably my favorite piece by her; the sense of the place, the implied backstory, the intense feeling and need and desperation... The gloves.
So there you have it! More than ten, and I could easily have gone on (loads more fern_tree and aisforinterval and little_cello I could have recced, along with additional artists I left off the list!)
