Title: Merry and Bright

rebelxxwaltzRating: Let's say… Green Cortina for the first part?
Notes: Since I've been practically living at work, I wasn't able to finish this in time to post it all in one go-- I forgot how little free time I actually have in the couple weeks leading up to Christmas! The concluding part will therefore be posted a day or two

Really though, this is brilliant and had me grinning as much as Sam. Such a great idea, can't wait for the second part.
Favouries... too hard to choose, and too long to paste into the comments when I did try to choose. Really love the chat outside the pub, and the healthy scattering of Christmas carol references. Oh wait this bit!
'...if that means I've got to listen to your picky speeches about the proper procedure for applying gravy to a Yorkshire pudding or which order to eat my sprouts in then so be it."' The grin broke into a laugh when I read that, SO spot on for Gene and just so damnably funny!
Really, REALLY enjoyed this Rebel, thanks doll!

I've made significant progress on the remainder of the fic, and keep having to steer it away from heavy angst territory. THIS IS HOLIDAY FUN, NOTHING SUPER DEPRESSING IS ALLOWED. Not as though Gene ever listens! :P
Of course there are benefits to that... you and I have talked before about the miraculous way that Gene just writes his own dialogue, which is surprisingly helpful of him. Sam might not appreciate it in all cases, but I certainly do!
Welp, I'm off to work for the final shift before Christmas. Wish me luck as I serve the last-minute-shopping public, aka crazy people and drunks!

"It's about time you showed up, Eugene Hunt! Just look at the state this city is in, when an old woman can't even go buy a sack of potatoes without having to foil a blag!"
Ahh poor Gene, getting told off in front of Sam by Mom! LOL...and don't mothers always say something embarrassing? Gene's been telling tales about Sam, and add some booze to Christmas dinner and maybe she'll even bring out the naked baby photos??? I know you're crazy busy at work now, but hopefully you'll get a break to finish up dear! *hugs*

The second half should be endless fun, if what I've got written so far is any indication. Poor Gene will have to deal with both his mum *and* Sam. Sam will get caught ogling Gene. General Christmas nostalgia and mayhem will ensue.
Thanks for dropping by with a comment, darling. Now I'm off to enjoy a day of helping drunk people purchase Christmas gifts! <33333333333

The most crucial thing about Gene's mother in this story is that she really *knows* him, and I think she's got him rumbled concerning how he really feels about Sam! Which leaves lots of opportunity for the cute and comedic... although I must say I've had to keep steering part 2 away from heavy angst territory. A little angst, I feel, was inevitable, but I don't want to spoil the fun!
Anyhow... it *has* been fun seeing all the holiday fic and art, hasn't it? All the activity just makes me want to create more stuff! Wheeee! I'm glad you have enjoyed this so far, and I hope you're having a great Christmas! <3333333

Sam jogged a few steps to catch up with the Guv as the taller man's long legs stalked toward the greengrocer at the end of the street.
Height difference kink, helloooo! Loving the sense of them on a mission as well. :)
As they approached the officers Gene froze in his tracks, causing Sam to walk straight into his broad back. "Oof. Guv, what--" Sam stepped out from behind the wall of camel hair
STILL LOVING THE SIZE KINK HERE plus accidental contact for the win
That Sam you're always going on about? What was that supposed to mean? Gene talked to his mother… about Sam? Sam allowed his thoughts to clatter against each other
Sam not being 100% oblivious in relationship matters for once, hurray!
If Sam hadn't been focusing his attention on a crack in the pavement, he might have noticed the way Gene's face softened as he released a weary sigh. "Don't be stupid, Tyler. My old mum made it perfectly clear that your presence is required. And besides--" He trailed off ( ... )

I'm flailing a bit over here because I need to wrap this up quickly (hello, Christmas fic!) and also try and get my Martian exchange fic done... oh, and catch up on all my commenting from the advent calendar. One of these days I will be home and awake and sober (dynamite combination, that) for more than an hour at a time! :P
Thank you for the kind feedback! I've really had fun writing this one so I'm glad you guys are enjoying it. <333333
