What struck me most is the fact that you placed this after Sam wakes up, and how he's still recovering from the coma and the injuries. I just-- I can't even explain why, but that makes this little fic very very special. I'd love to hear more about this version of how things went down...!
And and and that you put Ruth in. And that Gene actually got her a present. And that Ruth is so accepting of the two. I AM JUST HAVING A LOT OF RUTH FEELS RIGHT NOW OKAY.
And of course all the fluff. The lovely lovely banter. Gene's adorableness. Just, the whole thing, really. Love it to bits and pieces. <33333333333333333

But first things first: A very happy birthday to Fern!! *squishes Fern*
And then - what a lovely present you made her! The domesticity couldn't be any better, and yes, Sam still being injured... and still the reader not knowing how Gene came to be in the future as well... and Chicken Run (just watching Shaun the Sheep, LOL!) and the Muppets!! That's brilliant!
Love it!

And eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep how sweet! Grumpy but kind-hearted Gene, that's our guy alright. Buying Ruth a present and secretly dropping it off, that's fantastic. And yes, the allusion to Sam's injuries and how he plays it down for his mum, really lovely.
The 'I'm no fairy!' conversation - I find it endlessly fascinating, how different writers address it, and I like that you just leave it as a long-standing 'discussion' that has obviously been done to death between them, and how Sam is just super comfortable with it and Gene clearly has a huge justification of how he can be not gay but also attracted to Sam at one and the same time. All that contained in a few short sentences!
Love it Xys, starting to feel SUPER festive now :D

I find it a lot of fun as well, but their initial encounter with it would've been so early in their relationship- maybe even before the relationship began- that I can't imagine it ever being resolved, especially with Gene's inbuilt prejudices (any man born in the 30s/40s would be the same). But he definitely would justify it to himself xDDD The endless enigma that is Gene!
Really glad you enjoyed it, thank you so much for commenting! And apologies for the late reply! :D

Just picture him standing in WHSmith (because that's totally where he went), looking all lost and unsure because it's full of sodding books, and then a small packet on a revolving stand catches his eye...
You're so welcome, I'm really glad you enjoyed it! <3333 *squishy bear hugs* Thank youuuuu <3333

I love how Gene sums up Christmas:
You start off on a good note, ruin it by burnin’ the dinner, get drunk in the evening, an’ maybe some ‘appy times later on. Perfect day.
Actually, Chicken Run will be shown on Christmas Day on BBC1! :D
