OMG, what an extensive analysis! I can't help but wonder how much time you've spent on this!

It really does point out things I've never thought about. But I do like the episode, it's one of my favourites.

One of the things mentioned in the comments - yes, Sam clearly is a person who has problems not only communicating but also dealing with people. I think he might be a little OCD, rudimentarily at least? Well, in any case he's always trying to be in charge although he THINKS that he's being open and politically correct etc. He clearly thinks he's treating women as it should be while at the same time completely failing. Just think of 2.7 when Morgan sends Annie out with the Tufty Club and Sam agrees it might be for the best!

Wonderful analysis, I couldn't stop reading (and I really shouldn't have at that particular time).

ITA about Sam, there's often an undercurrent of artifice about the way he deals with people, as though he just can't help being awkward and stiff. And then sometimes he's natural enough, but totally oblivious. Well, a lot of the time really, lord love him ♥ ♥ ♥
