Why I recommend this piece: Because it's Annie and Phyllis together against the world, and they're clearly winning! They're up to something, and they're working together. Plus the art has a wonderful quality!

Why I recommend this piece: Anyone who has seen a single basaltgrrl sketch knows that she has a flawless knack of capturing likenesses and this is no exception. Annie is beautiful and Phyllis is stunning in this beautifully detailed picture. What I love most about it is the sense of camaraderie and support. The two women are standing side by side and while the bottom half is out of frame, you could imagine Phyllis clasping the hand of the new WPC, belying the seemingly stern expression on her face. Phyllis is a force for strength and Annie tenderness in what feels like a snapshot of a moment of vulnerability.

Rating/Notes/Warnings: G, Ruth/Vic
Why I recommend this piece: This may appear to be all about Vic and Sam, but it's not. It's actually a brilliant character study of Ruth. I love the point of view in this fic.

Rating/Notes/Warnings: Green Cortina
Why I recommend this piece: This powerful fic was written for the Fear Challenge on 1973flashfic. Sev takes a perfectly harmless-sounding scenario - husband brings a colleague home for dinner - and turns it into a tale of fear, betrayal, and anguished longing. It's told through the eyes of Gene's Missus, and her growing sense of unease is palpable. Every tiny detail (special occasion tumblers!) is perfectly observed. And her version of the Missus is, quite simply, one of the most memorable original LOMverse characters I've ever read.

Rating/Notes/Warnings: White Cortina, suitable for all
Why I recommend this piece: It's a thoughtful look at the impact of Annie's promotion to CID in series 2 on her career, her relationships, and her sense of self. Seen entirely through Annie's very perceptive eyes, every note rings true. Fabulous character study.
