Anyone else get an email from someone named "Jasmine Rogue" inviting people to join "myfandom.com?"  She stated that she had been collecting email addies either from fic writers she liked or from comments that impressed her.  I kinda feel I probably don't fit in either of those columns, so it's very weird.  It reminds me of the whole Fan Lib thing ( Read more... )

yeah; I haven't bounced up much against Fan Lib and didn't know the controversy around it until they pissed me off by hosting a "The Dark is Rising" movie fan fic contest (loathed that bastardizing movie!) and then I did some research. So I'm still not as up on it as all of you, but this did ring a bell from my little research of Fan Lib.

Spam. I've gotten things similiar in the past, FanLib included. I'd say ignore it. Though the lulu account does lend some credibility. You could check that out.

How appropriate you find the random mailing of promotion for the site is another question, but the site seems to be a legit fansite. There's an entry about it in the Fan History Wiki, and it predates Fan Lib, having been around since November 2006. I don't know about this Jasmine, but the site owner, Jacky Abromitis, is active in fandom and runs L-word.com.

I guess, e-mail and ask them to clarify how they got hold of your e-mails addresses.

Meh I've gotten stuff from that person several times. They do a mass mailing to try and get people to join. Just ignore it.

Thanks for all of the comments; I thought it might be another arm of fan lib, but the advice to ignore it is the best. It is good to know that actual fen are involved in this site.
