Wow. Disney. This had to be one of the only possible ways Fanlib could become less sane.

Oh god. This can get worse with all the fanfic 'sanitation' issues involved.

I have this image of them banning Disney owned series' fanfiction anywhere but fanlib. Ohoho.

It's not clear from the article what parts of FanLib Disney is buying. Are they buying the whole thing, or only the sponsored fiction contest business which uses proprietary software, or only the fanfiction archive?

My guess is Disney wants the the proprietary "group writing" software, not the fanfiction archive. The fanfiction archive cannot have made a profit. I wouldn't be surprised if the fanfiction archive is simply removed. Though they would probably say it's "closed while we make it bigger and better!"

We need more confirmation, because a press release at "paidcontent.org" doesn't inspire confidence.

Also need to know: What other Internet-based companies has Disney purchased, and what happened to them?

Ah. www.iparenting.com was purchased by Disney about six months ago.

The connection to Disney is quite obvious, since "Parenting News" contains blurbs such as "Disney launches new film label." Umm... this is parenting news how?

Perhaps Disney will keep the fanfic archive so it can plaster it with ads... after it removes the work about intellectual property it doesn't own, presumably. And the porn.

I predict a massive panicky content yank over at the fanlib archive by fanfic authors. :D

Why do I have an overpowering urge to write Mickey/Goofy?

The largest Disney-owned fandom at FanLib is, I believe, the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Gotta keep the kiddies comatose and drooling somehow.
